NORML.org - Working to Reform Marijuana Laws

NORML.org - Working to Reform Marijuana Laws

clip from article:  Humans have cultivated and consumed the flowering tops of the female cannabis plant, colloquially known as marijuana, since virtually the beginning of recorded history. Cannabis-based textiles dating to 7,000 B.C.E have been recovered in northern China, and the plant's use as a medicinal and mood altering agent date back nearly as far. In 2008, archeologists in Central Asia discovered over two-pounds of cannabis in the 2,700-year-old grave of an ancient shaman. After scientists conducted extensive testing on the material's potency, they affirmed, "[T]he most probable conclusion ... is that [ancient] culture[s] cultivated cannabis for pharmaceutical, psychoactive, and divinatory purposes." Cannabis for Treatment of HIV-Related Peripheral Neuropathy

Cannabis for Treatment of HIV-Related Peripheral Neuropathy

clip from article: The full results of this study appear in the February 13, 2007 issue of the journal Neurology. Below is a brief summary of these results.
Dr. Abrams and the Community Consortium conducted a study to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of smoked marijuana to treat pain caused by HIV-related peripheral neuropathy (injury to the nerves that supply feelings to your arms and feet). The study evaluated whether marijuana had an effect on pain relief. Marijuana was compared to a placebo; a cigarette that smells and tastes like marijuana but has no active ingredients (THC).
The study evaluated both ongoing neuropathic pain (clinical pain) and temporary pain induced by applying heat and capsaicin (ingredient that makes red peppers hot) cream to a small area of the skin (experimental pain). [read more at link]

Medical Marijuana Campaigns In San Diego County Score Major Endorsements! - Patient Care Association

Medical Marijuana Campaigns In San Diego County Score Major Endorsements! - Patient Care Association

clipped from article: The campaigns to allow and regulate medical marijuana dispensaries in Lemon Grove, Del Mar and Solana Beach (Propositions T, H and W, respectively) have recently received the endorsements of political parties in San Diego County from across the political spectrum including – the San Diego County Democratic Party, the San Diego County Libertarian Party and the San Diego County Green Party!
These endorsements show just how mainstream, and broad, the fight for medical marijuana access has become. Unlike other political issues, which tend to clearly divide conservatives and liberals, the rights of the citizens of the State of California to allow qualified patients access to marijuana medicine has clearly united compassionate voters on all sides of the isle.
Other prominent endorsements for these initiatives include:
  • Congressman Bob Filner
  • Judge James Gray (Retired), Libertarian Vice Presidential Candidate
  • Assemblymember Tom Ammiano
  • Lori Saldana, Former Speaker Pro Tempore, California Assembly
  • Alex Kreit, Law Professor at Thomas Jefferson University and Head of the San Diego City Medical Marijuana Taskforce
  • Law Enforcement Against Prohibition
  • San Diego Chapter of Americans for Safe Access
  • California NORM
The endorsements garnered by these campaigns show the willingness of civic organizations and leaders to take a stand on this important issue.
More endorsements are expected in the coming weeks. However, patients and supporters will have to wait until November 6th for the most important endorsement – that of the voting public.

Lebanon news - NOW Lebanon -Marijuana kills cancer?

clip from article: It is commonly known that in some states, like California, you can get a prescription for smoking Marijuana when you suffer from various diseases, cancer being one of them. In this case, it helps with nausea caused by chemotherapy and gives a much needed relief to people battling this horrific disease.
But this is not what this post is about. Scientists actually found that a Cannabis compound can help fight metastasis in certain aggressive forms of cancer. After 20 years of research, a couple of scientists at California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco say they may have found a way to stop cancer from spreading and even cure it.

Can Marijuana Prevent Cancer?

Can Marijuana Prevent Cancer?

clip from article:
1. Marijuana use is associated with higher risk for testicular cancer. In a 2011 study published in the journal Cancer,  researchers from the National Cancer Institute found that men with testicular cancer were 2.2 times more likely to be regular marijuana smokers (daily or more often) then men without this rare cancer.  A 2009 study from the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center in Seattle  found the same thing.  Researchers aren’t sure exactly why, but note that “The exact mechanism of how heavy marijuana use might increase the risk of TGCT (testicular germ cell tumors)  is unknown, however chronic marijuana exposure has multiple adverse effects on the endocrine and reproductive systems such as gynecomastia, impotence, reduced sperm counts, and suppressed testosterone.”
2. Marijuana more than doubles lung cancer risk. French researchers concluded in a 2008 study that marijuana users were 2.4 times more likely to develop lung cancer than non-users. And cancer investigators in New Zealand found that the heaviest marijuana users in their 2008 study had a five-fold higher risk for lung cancer compared to non-users. In general, they found that smoking one joint daily for a year raised risk slightly more than a pack-a-day smoking habit did.

New Study Says Marijuana Could Stop Cancer from Spreading

New Study Says Marijuana Could Stop Cancer from Spreading

clip from article: Breast cancer kills. Even mentioning the term can be a little creepy. However, thanks to slow but steady scientific progress, it’s not the killer it once was. We’re starting to understand that genetics plays a role in a minority of cases. We’ve found clear links to obesity, high-fat diets, and cigarette smoking. Lack of exercise probably plays a role, too. Regular screening seems like a good idea, but, like many ideas in science, it has some controversy. Treatments are markedly better than they once were, but they can be tough. The cannabis plant could help. We all know that THC improves appetite and nausea for anyone enduring chemotherapy. This relief is quite the feat. I don’t want to upset anyone’s stomach with a description, but nausea is no treat. We’re not talking about the average queasiness here. Chemotherapy often creates the kind of nausea that prevents any kind of concentrated effort, any movement, and just about any pleasant thought. Never mind eating enough to stay strong and healthy during a challenging time. Unfortunately, nausea drugs can be pricey. Most require that a patient swallow them — hardly a delightful thought under the circumstances. The lucky few who can get a pill down still have to wait for digestion before they feel better. Inhaled cannabis can do all that in seconds for a fraction of the cost. Which would you choose for yourself or your loved ones? [read more at link]

The American and Canadian Cancer society recommend taking at least(MINIMUM) 1000 IU of Vit. D per day, but research shows that 10 000 IU/Day is proper levels to fight off Cancer.

And please stay away from sugars as they lower your pH levels which create a perfect growing environment for tumors and cancer growth.

Maple sugar is the only sugar that elevates your pH levels rendering your body an infertile environment for Cancers & tumors.
Purchase 8.5 pH bottled water or add Baking soda as a cheap alternative to buying water.

Ask your Doctor to do pH test of your body as we are 98% water...so keeping your pH higher than 8 is essential..IMO & others
Warburg investigated the metabolism of tumors and the respiration of cells, particularly cancer cells, and in 1931 was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology for his "discovery of the nature and mode of action of the respiratory enzyme."[2] The award came after receiving 46 nominations over a period of nine years beginning in 1923, 13 of which were submitted in 1931, the year he won the prize.[3]

In 1944, Warburg was nominated for a second Nobel Prize in Physiology by Albert Szent-Györgyi, for his work on nicotinamide, the mechanism and enzymes involved in fermentation, and the discovery of flavine (in yellow enzymes).[4][5] It is reported by some sources that he was selected to receive the award that year but was prevented from receiving it by Adolf Hitler's regime, which had issued a decree in 1937 that forbade Germans from accepting Nobel Prizes

Medical Marijuana Should Be Allowed on Connecticut's Campuses | Cannabis Culture

clip from article: In less than a week, Connecticut’s medical marijuana program will take effect. Starting on Monday, Oct. 1, people who meet the requirements under the new law will be able to meet with their doctors and get a temporary registration certificate, allowing them to legally possess and consume marijuana for medical purposes.
Chances are, some of those who register will be college students. Like the vast majority of their fellow students, many of those patients will live on college campuses. Yet while state law will allow these people to possess and consume marijuana to help treat a chronic illness, they will be forbidden from consuming their medicine in their own homes or anywhere near them. The law passed this year states that the laws allowing the use of medical marijuana do “not apply to … the ingestion of marijuana on any school grounds or any public or private school, dormitory, college or university property.” This is ridiculous. The law should be amended to allow qualifying patients to consume their medicine on college and university property. [ read more at link]

Can Cannabidiol (CBD) Fight Metastatic Cancer? According to the latest research the answer is yes. - Health News - redOrbit

clip from article:
SAN DIEGO, Sept. 21, 2012 /PRNewswire/ — Medical Marijuana Inc. (OTC: MJNA), a leading hemp industry innovator, is pleased to report on a September 18 San Francisco Chronicle Article, “Pot compound seen as tool against cancer.”
The article states that scientists at California Pacific Medical Center who have been researching marijuana’s compounds for the 20 years have found that Cannabidiol, or CBD, has the ability to “turn off” the DNA that causes “breast and other types of cancers” to metastasize. CBD is the second-most abundant cannabinoid within marijuana, but does not cause the psychotropic high of THC.
As stated in the article: “We started by researching breast cancer,” said scientist Pierre Desprez. “But now we’ve found that Cannabidiol works with many kinds of aggressive cancers–brain, prostate–any kind in which these high levels of ID-1 are present.”

Delaware Medical Marijuana: ARTICLE: Cannabis Can Stop Cancer From Spreading

clip from article:  A compound found in cannabis could halt the spread of many forms of aggressive cancer, scientists say.

Researchers found that the compound, called cannabidiol, had the ability to ‘switch off’ the gene responsible for metastasis in an aggressive form of breast cancer. Importantly, this substance does not produce the psychoactive properties of the cannabis plant.

The team from the California Pacific Medical Center, in San Francisco, first spotted its potential five years ago, after it stopped the proliferation of human breast cancer cells in the lab.

Last year they published a study that found a similar effect in mice. Now they say they are on the verge of publishing further animal study results that expand these results further.

Speaking to the San Francisco Chronicle, study co-leader Dr Sean McAllister, said: ‘The preclinical trial data is very strong, and there’s no toxicity. There’s really a lot or research to move ahead with and to get people excited.’ [ read more at link]

Marijuana, already shown to reduce pain and nausea in cancer patients, may be promising as a cancer-fighting agent against some of the most aggressive forms of the disease.
A growing body of early research shows a compound found in marijuana - one that does not produce the plant's psychotropic high - seems to have the ability to "turn off" the activity of a gene responsible for metastasis in breast and other types of cancers.
Two scientists at San Francisco's California Pacific Medical Center Research Institute first released data five years ago that showed how this compound - called cannabidiol - reduced the aggressiveness of human breast cancer cells in the lab.

COUNTY MEDICAL MARIJUANA FACILITY FORCED TO CLOSE

COUNTY MEDICAL MARIJUANA FACILITY FORCED TO CLOSE

Thousands of medical marijuana patients lose access to medical marijuana as U.S. Attorney forces eviction of only legal dispensary, Mother Earth Alternative Healing Coop, Inc.

SEPTEMBER 4, 2012 (SAN DIEGO, CA) - Southern California’s only legal medical marijuana  dispensary, Mother Earth Alternative Healing Coop, Inc. was forced to close its doors and cease operations today a a result of the U.S. Attorney’s office pressure to force its eviction. The El Cajon facility had served thousands of medical marijuana patients since it opened in July 2011 and had complied with all state and local laws. It was cited as a model operation and was lauded by many as completely fulfilling the intent of California voters who approved Proposition 215, the Compassionate Use Act of 1996.

“The loss of this facility today is a real tragedy for those patients who turned to us to help relieve the pain and suffering associated with treatments for life threatening cancers and other conditions,” said Bob Riedel of Mother Earth, Inc. “This is a sad day for them and a sad day for those who believe that the federal government has overstepped its bounds in pursuing a dubious course of action to close facilities that are legal under current state law. It’s a travesty really to divert this amount of time, resources and energy on legal and legitimate operations, a continuation of a flawed and misguided drug policy that has failed at many levels for many years.”

The closure of the Mother Earth facility came about as a result of eviction actions taken by the property’s landlord in response to pressure by U.S. Attorney Laura Duffy’s office. The tactic of forcing evictions has been repeated in a number of locations. in the meantime, there have been no attempts by the federal government to successfully overturn California State law or San Diego County ordinances which legalize medical marijuana for patients. There are approximately 70,000 such patients in San Diego County alone.

“We are leaving this operation today with a renewed determination to fight for our patients and to fight for recognition of California state law which was approved by California voters more than fifteen years ago.,” said Riedel. “The U.S. Attorney’s office is avoiding a direct challenge to that law for a reason. We believe the courts would uphold California law and we believe the U.S. Attorney fears this outcome and has decided not to directly challenge the law. That day in court is inevitable, however, and we will do all we can to force resolution of this issue as soon as possible. This action has resulted in a de facto ban on medical marijuana in San Diego.”

Mother Earth officials announced plans to pursue alternative options for the thousands of medical marijuana patients who are now left without legal means to obtain cannabis. They also released letters of support from Congressman Bob Filner and other supporters who were appealing to Governor Jerry Brown and others to take action to resolve this issue. Options to continue operations would continue to be limited to sites and protocols that not only complied with state and local laws, but exceeded those standards as did the now closed Mother Earth Alternative Healing Coop.
